Carnival Arts is a not-for-profit arts organisation based at The Arts Yard near the Forth and Clyde Canal in the north of Glasgow. We work in partnership with communities and provide a platform for creativity.

We have worked with marginalised and diverse communities all over the city and beyond. Our lead artists are from the West Indies and we base our ethos on the carnival structure from the Caribbean.

We collaborate with local community groups, running outreach workshop programmes and producing events with a focus on carnival and celebration. We have recently worked with artists and organisations including Scottish Canals, leading contemporary artist Alberta Whittle and the Glasgow Sculpture Studios for Glasgow International (G.I), and Glasgow Canal Co-op.

We were the first Scottish organisation to work in and develop Caribbean carnival arts, with 30 years’ experience in the field. We emerged from working with the West End Festival on their parade, going on to develop large scale projects and events from the Briggait. We moved to Trongate in the late ‘90s, where our venue became a vital meeting point for Caribbean and immigrant communities, and our club space became a legendary venue for the likes of Terry Hall and Nightmares on Wax to DJ.

From our current base in Port Dundas we operate a variety of activities, and host cultural tenants from street artists to music workshops, where we are proud to take part in the cultural regeneration of this part of the city and inspire further generations of people.
